What The Role Of School Technology Coordinator Involves, And How To Become One
A school technology coordinator is responsible for making sure that the resources available to the school are used in the optimum way. This includes overseeing the operation of the computer network, arranging for repairs to be carried out, and in some cases even dealing with isolated incidents in the student rooms themselves. It can be a rewarding job for those who like to work with computer technology, but who don't want a high pressure job in the business sector.
When a school instals computer equipment, it obviously intends it to be used. Not just by the computer savvy pupils who are looking at information technology as a career, but also by the teachers who are trying to impart their message to the class. Often, these teachers will have trained for the profession at a time when there were few or even no computers used in a school. These teachers will not, at first, understand how to use computer technology to help get their message over. This is something the education coordinator will show them.
The computer network also needs to be maintained and kept running. This is something which the education coordinator is also responsible for. Servers need to be kept running so that information can be freely shared across the network, and each part of the network needs access to be maintained. Any break in service can lead to vital learning time being lost. The coordinator will have a list of trusted contacts who can quickly be called in to repair any faults in the system.
The one part of the technology coordinator job which is not set in stone is the part where individual problems with computers are concerned. In many cases, the technology coordinator will also be responsible for dealing with broken downloads, or software which will malfunction. If a computer crashes, the coordinator will be called in to deal with this. In many larger establishments, there will be an assistant to take this burden away from the coordinator.
School technology coordinator jobs are not easy to obtain, but they can be won eventually through getting one of those assistant jobs which are far less demanding. By doing this job, you will be gaining the experience you need to be able to move up to become a coordinator. Train for a formal qualification in your spare time as well, and you will be doing everything you can to give yourself the best possible chance. Opportunities are not difficult to find, as there are so many online colleges offering tuition in the student's own home. Take a home course, work as hard as you can, and look to get an assistant's job. These are the steps which can bring you your dream career as a school technology coordinator.
