The programmer analyst job description is simple enough in theory, but there is always a bit more to it than that. It does represent the pinnacle of a programmer's career, and is not something you are going to break into overnight. The systems analyst job description involves studying the computer systems of client companies, or the would be computer systems of client companies, and working out how to implement the changes which the company wants. They will have given a specification as to what they are looking for from their system. Of course, as they are not computer specialists, they may not realize what is involved, and they may be asking for too much. If they are, it is up to the analyst to point this out to them, and try to get them to set more realistic targets.

Systems analysis is a huge responsibility. It involves overseeing whole groups of programmers while they carry out the instructions of the client company. The analyst is the one whose acumen and expertise is going to decide the quality of the entire result. Programmers can only carry out the orders of the analyst, and are really dependent on him to a great degree. This is one of the reasons why the analyst should ideally have a programming background.

The career path you should follow starts by getting a recognized qualification in a computer programming language. There is no shortage of jobs in the information technology sector, and the time between starting to study and becoming employable is incredibly short when you think of the time taken by lawyers, doctors,and other professionals with recognized qualifications. Once you become employable, you can start to create the sort of work history which will make you attractive to employers. A combination of a highly desirable qualification in a recognized programming language, and a work record based on reliability and good service, will see you have a great chance of satisfying the requirements of the programmer analyst job description.
